The JPSO is currently seeking highly motivated individuals seeking a
professional setting to further their law-enforcement careers. We will provide all of the necessary
tools to enhance your ability to successfully combat crime and to further your
career.
Why Work at JPSO?
A career in law enforcement is one of the oldest and noblest professions. Working in law enforcement is almost
a “calling” to some. In fact, many
families have multiple generations working in this field. Others see it as a way to give
something back to their community or a way to continue the utilization of their
training in their post-military career.
Whatever your reason, if you are interested in working at one of the
largest and best-equipped law enforcement agencies in the area, JPSO maybe the
place for you.
We maintain a state-of-the-art firing range to provide training to our officers. We provide both in-house and
out-of-the-house training in various law enforcement fields and tactics. We provide career paths through
promotional testing. We also provide
the latest in technology, whether it is laptops in the field, crime cameras, or
computerized investigatory tools.
Finally, we offer some of the most competitive salary and benefit packages in
the area.
Available Positions
Due to the size and complexity of the JPSO, we offer traditional and
nontraditional positions. Law enforcement is our first duty but it also
takes a whole host of support and non-lawenforcement personnel to accomplish our
goals.
Traditional Law Enforcement Positions
Our primary focus at the JPSO is to provide law enforcement services to the
citizens of the parish. To
accomplish this task, we offer a variety of traditional law enforcement
positions. Most of our new hires are
placed in one of the following positions:
The JPSO operates a POST-Certified Training Academy. Classes are held at various times
during the year. Generally, to enter
a law enforcement position, you must graduate from an academy and be
POST-Certified.
As you work your way up through our ranks, we also offer positions in our
specialized bureaus, such as Detective, Homicide Investigator, Emergency Rescue
Officer, Crime Scene Investigator, etc.
Nontraditional Positions
As noted throughout this website, the JPSO is a complex organization and offers
a wide variety of employment opportunities on top of the traditional law
enforcement and corrections positions.
The JPSO operates a Forensic Crime Laboratory which includes a traditional crime
lab, a photo lab, and a DNA lab. For
those interested in fighting crime via cutting edge technology, there may be a
place for you here at the JPSO. We
are also excited about the construction of a new state-of-the-art forensic crime
laboratory. This $20 million project
shows our commitment to this fast-growing field.
We also operate several administrative or “civil” offices that provide services
internally and to the public. As one
of the largest parishes in the State, we operate a rather large tax collection
bureau. As such, we need clerks,
auditors, tax collector field reps, etc.
Our internal Accounting and Purchasing sections are also, at times,
looking for accounting clerks.
There are also a number of clerical or secretarial positions open at any
particular time. Please check with
our Personnel Office when submitting your application to see what positions may
be available.
Minimum Requirements
Because we are a law enforcement agency, there are certain minimum requirements
that must be met in order to be employed at the JPSO. See the “General Qualifications”
